Thanksgiving 2017

The volunteers and families who use the food bank are grateful to the community for their continued support. This Thanksgiving will be a wonderful holiday thanks to St. John Fisher’s families who filled a bag with all the fixings, our local Girl Scouts for their delicious apple pies, Dr. Gallagher and his staff for their amazing pumpkin pies and whipped cream, the Knights of Columbus for their warm coats, our local Lions and the Josh LeJeune Memorial fund’s generous donation, and to Kelsey Kermode Kaman for preparing sides and meals with her volunteers for us. We are also thankful to Liberty Bank Foundation for their matching gift in conjunction with the East Hampton Rotary. The local Boy Scout Troop 39 has once again collected beautiful fresh balsam wreaths for all our families!! Our cup is full!! Thank you!!

Home Goods Requests

As the seasons slowly begin to change and the temperatures begin to drop in the evening our home goods needs transition too. We are looking for gently used drinking glasses, pots and pans, baking dishes, small appliances, gently used towels and blankets, costume jewelry, sweatshirts, jeans, and yarn. Please think of us when doing your fall cleaning.

Please remember that all home goods need to be brought to the Food Bank while volunteers are there.  Clothing must be clean and wearable.

Thank you!

Donations can be brought to the Food Bank at 3 Wilhenger Drive every Tuesday during open hours, as well, or non-perishable foods can be brought to Elmer Thienes administration office (hours: school year 8 am-4 pm; Summer 8:30 am-3 pm), to Marlborough Country Store (45 N. Main St.) or to Town Hall during posted hours.  If unsure if the Food Bank is open, call 860-295-6008 between 10 am and noon on the Saturday in question.

High School Volunteers for the Food Bank

Four volunteer slots are available each Tuesday during our afternoon hours and for the first Saturday of each month when we are open for donations.  The new procedure for high school volunteers to sign up is on the “High School Volunteers” page on this website.

Donating Large Items

If you have a large item to donate please contact us and we will post it on our large item bulletin board. When a family expresses interest we then contact you. They are responsible for picking up the item. Having a photo is helpful whenever possible. We appreciate you working with us! Thank you.

Please Donate Only Clean & Gently Used Items

The new year frequently motivates people to clean at home. We are the fortunate recipients of many beautiful, gently used items.  Most recently, we have been receiving heavily soiled, torn, unusable bedding, clothing, etc. We have also received broken toys with many missing parts.
Our volunteers are not here to sort through foul smelling garbage bags of textiles. Please do not add to our workload. We bring these bags to the landfill if they are not in usable condition. Please consider doing this yourself.
Donations must be clean. We do not launder items. If items are stained please consider donating them elsewhere. We take only seasonal items so winter clothes only in the winter. We do not have the ability to store off season clothing.
Please help us help others. Drop by for a tour some Monday morning to see what we do on Wilhenger Drive. Thank you.
